About Arts & Above:
Arts & Above, is an interdisciplinary performing arts organization which creates and produces artistic expressions, and provides educational opportunities. The organization was formed in January of 2014 by artists Kate Jordan and Bruno Augusto. With the shared belief that art should reflect human experiences, be accessible to all people, and presented with the highest quality, Kate and Bruno united as Co-Founding Directors of Arts & Above. Arts & Above presents locally, as well as nationally and internationally. It’s productions deliberately collapse conventional boundaries through movement, objects, sounds, and texts, not for the sake of creating chaos, but to express specific moments in time and space.
Arts & Above provides weekly movement classes, in addition to master classes, artistic residencies, and is developing an annual festival. Such interactions exist because Arts & Above is committed to an all-inclusive experience focused on the full artistic declaration of the individual.
Bruno is the Co-Founding Director of Arts & Above. As an art maker, performer, and educator, his body of work consists primarily of dance, music, poetry, and film. Bruno’s work has been both performed and presented worldwide, including Washington DC, New York, San Francisco, Cuba, Portugal, Germany, Angola, and Algeria, in addition to touring in Africa, Europe, and the United States. Bruno has been a professional dancer for 21 years. His formal training includes classical ballet, modern dance, and contemporary movement techniques, as well as acting and music composition. Mr. Augusto holds a diploma from the National School of the Arts in Havana, Cuba, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Towson University in Dance Performance, and a Master of Fine Arts from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in Dance Performance and Choreography.
Kate is the Co-Foundering Director of Arts & Above. Her work reflects life experiences through contemporary dance and performance art/installation. She also occasionally expresses through film and screen printing. Kate’s work has been presented across the United States at venues such as The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (DC) and ZSpace (San Francisco), as well as internationally in Guatemala and Lima. With an appetite for travel, she has also performed, created, and produced her art in St. Lucia, Algeria, Angola, Bahrain, Italy, and Greece. As an educator, she focuses on technique, expression, and performance. Kate regularly teaches master classes and residencies. She is trained in classical ballet, traditional American modern dance, contemporary movement techniques, Pilates and GYROTONIC®. From 2009-2012 she served as co-founder/co-director of the Eureka Dance Festival. Ms. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Science from Grove City College in Marketing Management, and a Master of Fine Arts from S.U.N.Y. Brockport in Dance Performance and Choreography. In 2016, she opened Kinetic Body Missoula, the first space in Missoula dedicated to the practice of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®.

Bruno’s Movement Practice
Teaching a class, Bruno investigated mind and body pathways with the intent to maximize the full expression of the self. He began from within the personal vessel, minimizing outside forces and energies; generating truth, clarity and strength. This initial portion of the movement practice/warmup would start slow, and picked up in speed in a natural way. The technical components taken from his knowledge in Ballet, Tai Chi, Afro Cuban Modern Dance, and Capoeira were then introduced. At this point the class moved on to the creation and performance components, which Bruno led through improvisation based tasks and phrase materials. Special focus to the weaving of individual voices when working in partnerships were emphasized. He challenged the participants to stay with their personal expression while also taking in the experience of being among other bodies. In this particular part of the practice, everyone was encouraged to perform for themselves, rather than for each other. This practice was designed for people of all ages, and did not require previous dance experience. Original music accompanies the practice.
VIEO from the soil
An evening of dance about ritual, synthesis, and the peculiar force of love that occurs with the weaving of two people.
αἰών: of faith
αἰών: of faith is a new work about faith; as in the mystical, intuitive relationship one develops with the unseen, the senses of what can be, what may become, the internal voices that guide our choices beyond reason, beyond the bounds of organized religions or personal logic.
